These books will be used as a class set for my students. I teach a block scheduled Language Arts and Social Studies class and my team and I often plan our classroom novels around the same regions we are studying in Social Studies. This strategy helps students relate and connect to content in Social Studies by often giving them a first-hand account of the people and places they are studying! Not only do my students learn about the history and geography of these places, but they also get to hear from the people who live there. This also helps them understand multiple perspectives on the topics that come up in both classes! Along with that, students are able to understand more complex issues in our novel because they are also learning about the areas history at the same time! My students will have direct access to these books during class and each student will be assigned their own copy. I am also excited to be able to get a class set to share with other teachers when they begin their India Units. We often struggle to get enough books from our library to help meet the needs of all of our students!
