My students are learning what it takes to have a job. My students are visual learners and require many supports to help in their academic learning. Teachers Pay Teachers has been a great resource for me as a teacher to find materials and activities to help my students learn the topics that we are focusing on. The areas we focus on are helping them to create independence and develop necessary skills that each person should have. Each day, my students have the opportunity to attend a variety of job sites on and off campus to help them get valuable work experience. One of those job sites is a TV production group on campus which plans, films, and edits news stories that are happening around the world and around our school community. Each of my students in this group struggle with communication, social skills, and or work tolerance. However, each of them thrive off this opportunity of being on camera. It has been able to boost some of their confidence and ability to interact with others. That's why I am asking for a new video camera, tripod, and a projector to help in this process. Right now, I have a student who brings a camera from home. However, if he doesn't attend, the group is not able to continue their work. It would also allow others the opportunity to work the camera and gain valuable experience. The projector would help us to be able to take our stories on the road to help my students feel confident in their ability of following a script while on camera. This group allows students to get that hand on and visual experience of learning a new skill that they couldn't receive while online learning.
