Over the last couple of months, my students have been studying the Middle Ages, the Renaissance, and other events from the 1400s, 1500s, and 1600s. This time period is not only rich in history but rich in stories. Our goal is to examine the history behind these stories and fairytales in order to eventually create our own. To do so, we examine the tale of the Pied Piper, a maybe true story about the disappearance of children in Hamlin, Germany. The creepy story intrigues the middle schoolers as we examine the history behind the book and read the original tale. We then read the book, Piper, by Jay Asher. This amazing Graphic Novel will allow us to explore how authors take historical information and tales and create their own versions of stories. With your donation, you will help me purchase these amazing graphic novels for my classroom that can be used this year and for many years to come. You will help my students start their creative endeavor beyond the normal title of historian. Help me with my pipe dream to help students see the creative value of learning history in the classroom.
