The flexible seating will support my students to move around the classroom and collaborate with their peers. My scholars are more comfortable sitting on the floor, and these items will ensure that my students are always comfortable and ready to learn. Having flexible seating in the classroom also gives my scholars a moment to have alone time to self-reflect. Twice a week, my scholars take notes, and many of them want to sit close to the board. Flexible seating allows the students to be more self-aware of the seating types and the environment they learn best. A mindset shift is beneficial for both students and teachers. I've learned that my students are less distracted and more productive when comfortable. Traditional desk and tables are needed, but the floor cushions and the portable lap desk allows my students to quickly and easily pair up to work in small groups. In addition to building community, these additional seating will allow the scholars alone time without distracting the other students.
