Teaching cooking and kitchen safety to students with disabilities is an important step for students to gain independence. Each week the students will plan, prepare, and safely cook. The objective is for students to gain knowledge and skills in cooking measurements, reading recipes, kitchen safety, budgeting, and to prepare simple meals. Some of the students will leave home after high school so they need to gain these skills. Some students will remain in the home but can contribute to the household by safely preparing meals. Everyone deserves to be as independent as possible.
