Students living in homes or shelters that are unsafe physically or emotionally learn early on to "not tell." The greatest challenge of a crisis counseling office is to communicate that it is a sanctuary for all who enter. Once that message is heard, these students open their hearts and minds to healing. The literature addresses the areas of greatest need - OCD, intrusive thoughts, anxiety, eating disorders, suicide, bullying, and grief. The chair, lamp, shades, tiles, and manipulatives aid both in creating that safe environment and ways to offload stress.
