The materials that I am requesting for my students with hearing loss, will be used in a variety of ways to promote language growth. Each item will be used to target specific language goals in a meaningful and engaging way. My students need to have language rich activities to help support their developing language. The dynamic materials allow my students to be engaged and promote their curiosity while remaining educational. Children with hearing loss need more practice and experiences to develop their language and listening skills and these materials will give them the perfect opportunity to do so. Each storytelling kit will be used to target listening skills, comprehension, following directions and so much more. For example, I will use the "Polar Bear, Polar Bear What Do You Hear?" storytelling kit by having them listen to the sound each animal makes without showing them the picture of the animal. They will have to think about what the animal is and if they need more clues, I will describe the animal by their characteristic. After listening to the descriptions, the child will choose the animal they think it is and place it on a felt board. This activity targets listening to critical elements, story sequencing, and new vocabulary. Each storytelling kit I have requested will be used with intention and work on the child's listening skills. I also love to use sensory materials to target goals for my students. I would use the Sensory Sand Ice Cream Set and colored Sensory Dough to order ice cream from the student and they have to listen for the specific items I ask for. This targeting listening for critical elements and following directions!
