Before coming to first grade my students had less that one year of normal learning pre Covid and distant learning. They come to class with varied skill levels. I address their needs in small group work. These small learning groups also help develop the much needed social and emotional development that suffered due to quarantining and social distancing. The reading, math, and STEM centers engage them in learning while allowing them to move around, be creative, and socialize. They learn together in these small groups and this addresses some of the varied levels of learners I have in the classroom.
