Variety is the spice of life and that is why my request is full of seemingly random things for my classroom community. We are in need of fun and engaging building supplies such as Legos, Magnetic tiles, and a marble run that will allow my students to engage in designing and building structures. These materials will be used to help teach concepts of the engineering and design process. My students love STEM activities and with these supplies, I will be able to provide more of these activities for them. Something else that I would like to provide for my students is a calm down corner combined with social and emotional learning. My students are experiencing affects from the unknown of COVID-19 and many experiences in their own lives. My students require a safe space where they can self regulate and process their emotions to then be better able to learn at school. There are many small manipulatives that would provide them with variety and the ability to use their senses to come back to the present moment. They also need supplemental materials to aid in their development in social skills as they form friendships and learn about group dynamics. My students also love non-fiction books. They love learning and restating facts that they have read. I wish to provide them with new informational texts that align with their interests. And finally, I have found that games are a great way for my students to learn. They are engaged in the task and the game. Board and card games will help the 3rd graders to practice and gain fluency in their multiplication and division facts.
