My classroom needs more toys to encourage literacy. While reviewing my assessments, I noticed our literacy scores have been going down since covid. I want to promote more literacy in my classroom by putting more literacy toys out during dramatic play, having literacy games available, and literacy in my small groups. I also chose literacy items that are easy to sanitize with our covid procedures. If my project is approved, I will use the Language Instant Learning Center in small groups to build rhyming skills and sound-to-sight recognition. I will send the Family Engagement Packs home for our take-home library activities. The Family Engagement Packs will help parents participate in their child's literacy learning. The Match-A-Sound game will be used during our free time and in small groups. The Early Language Activity Boxes will be sent home with families and small groups. The manipulatives will help compare objects, sort objects, and build vocabulary. I will put the Phonemic Awareness Folder games in our class library. The games will help with beginning sounds, syllables, rhyming sounds, and more! Launch and Learn Alphabet is a bingo game. I will use this game during intervention with my three and 4-year-olds. This game helps with alphabet recognition and matching uppercase letters to lower case letters. Finally, the Pop and Learn game will be used during dramatic play, small group, and intervention. This game helps with letter recognition and counting. All the items listed can easily be sanitized to help prevent the spread of covid.
