Sensory play encourages learning through exploration, curiosity, problem solving and creativity. It helps to build nerve connections in the brain, supports the development of language and motor skills, and encourages problem solving. The materials chosen support development of four-year-old students through sensory play and will be used in the classroom during center time. Providing opportunities for children to actively use their senses as they explore their world through sensory play is crucial to brain development and overall early childhood development which translates into lifelong success. Children and even adults learn best and retain the most information when they engage their senses. The best part of sensory learning is - it’s FUN!
