The books I've chosen for our classroom library, have been selected specifically for each student in mind. Dragon books for Abby and Annabella, mysteries for Zech and Jeremiah, and dinosaur books for Shakota and Lizzie are just a few. They will be so thrilled to see the books that I hand-picked for them to read.
I know that every one of my students has had to deal with stress and struggles in their family, since the pandemic started 2 years ago. I imagine that they watched a lot of T.V. and played video games during that time at home. They didn't have access to good books that engaged learning. When we have free reading time first thing every morning, I can tell that they feel this is a safe place for them, and a time to de-stress and just enjoy what they're reading. They don't want that time to end!
With my emphasis on reading, this class of resilient fourth graders is finally catching up to their appropriate reading level. I get goose bumps sometimes when one of the previous reading haters who used to dread reading aloud, raises their hand because they want to read something out loud to the class. This is a new found confidence and joy they've found! I look forward to this momentum continuing for each of them for the rest of their lives! And your donation will help!
