Throughout the ongoing stress surrounding Covid-19, my students have discovered the joys in writing. In fact, when given a writing instrument, students will write on just about anything. Students have found that self-expression, through writing has served as therapy during difficult times. In fact, when our district was forced to teach remotely due to Covid-19, my students and I found a way to reach out to one another and remain connected through our classroom note writing project that included writing and mailing handwritten notes to one another. Feedback from students afterwards indicated high reviews. Students said that receiving a personalized note in the mail served as medication for the isolation they were experiencing caused by being separated from their peers. The note writing project is still going strong even though school is live in session. Students continue to lift one another through note writing and they share their daily highs and lows through journal writing. In addition, white boards are needed to allow a place for students to leave uplifting messages for one another. Fidget toys added to our classroom will assist students who battle ADHD and struggle to sit for extended periods of time.
