My students have been struggling with reader and writer interest as we transition back to a full time schedule. This class set of The Serpent King would help engage students in reading because of the content of the novel and the relatable nature of the characters. The reading level would engage students of levels and allow me to meet them where they are at and increase their skills and knowledge. This is an exciting story that students can relate too. I know that an engaging and relatable novel can increase interest and therefore increase student engagement.
