Students will use the Upfront magazines to be kept abreast of current events that can be consumed in an age-appropriate way. We will use the articles to discuss informative texts and analyze the way they are formatted. We will also use some of the articles to construct argumentative writing pieces. They will also be reused for a few years, so this is impacting hundreds of students. The Cricut machine will be used to create vinyl art to liven up my cinderblock-walled classroom. I'm in the basement and have no windows in my classroom--this makes for a gloomy atmosphere that I've tried to counteract with decor and lighting. I'd like to use the Cricut machine to create a more welcoming environment for students.
