I use a play-based child-directed approach implementing games and activities that are valuable to the individual. Having a variety of options allows for choice and keeps things exciting! Therapy can be challenging, but having fun activities that are engaging and meaningful is the spoonful of sugar to help the medicine go down! For example, items such as putty and finger hole punches help address hand weakness in a captivating and fun way. The body sock, kinetic sand, weighted lap blanket, and Nee-Doh ball help address sensory needs resulting in a state of readiness that allows them to focus and feel secure in their bodies. Many of my little learners have handwriting problems. Having fun options such as rainbow pencils, dry erase markers, and a chalkboard helps to motivate them to write.
