Many of the materials I am hoping for are a variety of ceramic art supplies. I have found that during these difficult times children more than ever need to continue having positive creative experiences. I would like to do several hand and slab building ceramic projects to give them those experiences. These projects are more than just art are however, the ceramic process includes several processes that connect to the 5th grade science core. Clay exists because of the process of weathering, erosion, and deposition. The process of glazing and firing is a chemical reaction. I will also use this creative process to teach and review this science curriculum. The books on this list will be used in small groups to increase interest in reading and to practice improving reading comprehension over a longer time period. It is important that students learn more than the ability to simply read, but they need to build an understanding of the value and joy of reading that can and will benefit them for the rest of their lives.
