In my STEM class, students learn computer coding using a myriad of different techniques. Students code robots, drones, and Micro:bits. To help my students learn amid the pandemic, I could use a classroom set of the new Micro:bit V2. A Micro:bit is basically a pocket sized computer that students can program to do amazing things. The problem with technology is it changes and upgrades so quickly. For this project, I would like to upgrade my old Micro:bits to the new V2 version. The new version offers many new opportunities for students to advance their computer coding skills. Some new features of the V2 are an upgraded Bluetooth antennae, an onboard microphone and speaker, and a touch sensitive logo pin. The greatest advantage of using Micro:bits is students can continue learning at home. Due to the pandemic, students are forced to learn at home. Creating lessons for at home learning that are beneficial and engaging can be difficult. These Micro:bits will allow students to continue to enhance their computer coding skills and at the same time allow them to complete hands on projects. For example, using a Micro:bit, a student can create a working security system that can prevent someone from stealing a precious object. In my opinion, lessons like these will make the at home learning experience much more enjoyable. The coding platform used fo the Micro:bits is web based so as long as a student has internet access, they can continue working on their projects. Receiving funding to purchase a classroom set of Micro:bits will help students better understand the world of computer science whether they are at home learning or at school.
