A classroom library is so much more than a shelf with books, it can be a doorway to literacy and a lifelong enjoyment of reading. As a first year teacher I want to provide my students with diverse reading materials that reflect their lives and cultures and make them feel welcome and included in my classroom. When the characters on the cover speak to you, you are more likely to want to open the book and engage with the text, a task that is a lot of work for many of my students. These books will encourage them to start reading and hopefully continue reading their entire lives.

About my class
