Many students lost conceptual understanding of how and why algebra works during the pandemic because they had to move back and forth from working in the classroom to working online, at home. For a long time, students have just memorized rules and procedures to pass math class without gaining any conceptual understanding. Algebra tiles will allow students to make meaning of variables as unknown numbers and represent expressions and equations visually and physically.
Math will no longer be a jumble of numbers and letters but will have meaning as students represent their expressions and equations using algebra tiles. Algebra tiles take solving equations from the abstract and allows students to see that they are physically rearranging the numbers and variables using inverse operations. The magnet algebra tiles will allow me to model the use of algebra tiles as students get used to visually representing algebra.
During the pandemic I couldn’t engage my students in as many fun and interactive ways because we couldn't move around the classroom and some students were stuck at home. The eggspert game buttons will allow students to engage in fun learning competitions where students can practice their new-found understanding of algebra!
