I have moved to a new school and upon arriving, I found that I was lacking many books in my classroom. In order to help my students become proficient readers, I need books. They need to have materials in order to succeed. My students are eager to be readers. With COVID-19, many of them did not attend kindergarten or attended kindergarten online. This has put them severely behind in their reading skills. They love books and love hearing stories, and their goal is to be able to read a story on their own. It gives them a sense of accomplishment to be able to complete a story by themselves, which also helps to build their esteem and their social-emotional well-being.
