Kids basic needs must be meet before learning can happen. So many of my friends have feelings and they just don't know how to use their words to get those feelings out. The boxes of markers, the headphones, and the magnet toys can give them an opportunity to disconnect from the word for just a moment and become lost in their feelings. The elastic body pods, the gel rainbow viewers, and the rain sticks will allow them to regulate their bodies in a new to them way. I know the sensory mats and stones will allow my students to feel a feeling other than the unexplainable. I can't wait to see the joy on their faces when they get to do an activity that makes those big feelings more manageable. I want to give my friends a chance to feel normal, to feel like they belong. I can already envision less meltdowns and stressor moments!
