It isn't always easy teaching the "big kids" in high school, but it is definitely worth it! My 11th and 12th graders are always on the move, and they have the hardest time staying focused while at traditional desks in the classroom. It seems like I always have students up and around for some reason or another. Maybe their chromebook has died and they need to move closer to an outlet, or maybe they are simply too tall for the desks provided and need to stand for a moment to stretch. Either way, keeping students in desks that they find uncomfortable doesn't seem realistic with today's students. I don't see how a student is expected to learn if in that moment they are hyper aware of how uncomfortable they are because of simple seating arrangements. The materials in this project will help my students learn in a classroom that they find comfortable. Before creating this project, I asked a group of my students what they would like in the classroom, and these are objects selected by actual students.
