I am requesting a grant for wiggle/wobble chairs to use in my classroom. My students are resilient but have suffered from the emotional, social, and academic impacts of COVID. The impact of the pandemic reaches deeper than we yet understand, and I am striving to give my first graders small-group and one-on-one instruction to meet their social-emotional and academic needs. I love working with differentiated groups at my teacher's table and with the impact Covid has had on my young students, small group instruction is crucial now more than ever. I incorporate literacy centers into my instruction three times a week. We are working hard on closing the learning gaps created in literacy due to the effect of the pandemic on education. My six and seven-year-old students are full of energy and need to wiggle, but they also need to focus and learn. The wobble chair is the perfect solution! I am requesting 12 wobble chairs total for my classroom. They will be used for each group of students who come to my teacher's table for a lesson and will be used at an independent word work center. I will set up guidelines for use, but after reading reports and seeing them in use, students quickly learn the correct way to use them, and they love to be able to wiggle while learning! I want to use their energy as a tool and not a distraction by using these wobble chairs. I believe the learning outcomes in my classroom will be impacted positively by the implementation of wobble chairs. Having these sensory chairs available will connect with the variety of learning styles present in my my classroom while also keeping them engaged.
