After being in quarantine for more than an entire school year, I want students to have the opportunity to complete a project that also teaches them the life skill of sewing. I am a first-year teacher who wants to give my students an out-of-the-box creative experience. Students will be learning about the Japanese dying process called Shibori. They will also learn how to create a few basic stitches while using their fabrics to reinforce the often forgotten skill of sewing that can be used outside of the art classroom.
