Without access to classroom manipulatives during online learning, students have a delayed understanding of spatial relationships and the connection to mathematics. This is a key developmental stage that is important to their understanding of mathematical thinking. Omnifix cubes are particularly good manipulatives, as the students build from flat 2D to cube to structure. The youngest students use these as counters and for pattern recognition and creation while older students use them to develop an understanding of place value, area, and volume. In our one-room K-8 class, these can benefit all.
