This is a project that will connect classroom material with laboratory experiences. Students have an easier time relating to the concepts taught in Chemistry when they can put their hands on something and see it happen first hand. Through the use of the fractional distillation kits, students will witness two chemicals separate, which one will get to the top first? That will be determined by their differing boiling points. One solution will be collected at the end of the set up, while the other remains in the original flask. Students have been shorted time in the classroom and in the lab, this project will help address learning loss from the pandemic and distance learning as well as add extended learning opportunities to the course. That biggest component missing from the time apart is the hands-on piece of the labs.
