Now that students are back in the classroom they are voicing how frustrated and under stimulated they were at Virtual School. While we as educators have tried our very best to capture their minds and hearts through virtual school, nothing compares to in person learning.
The hands on nature of a printmaking press will provide my students with a unique and mentally stimulating opportunity to create art using something they have never seen before. Put those Crayola's in the drawer, it's time to roll the press and earn our printmaking stripes! Let's get excited about art class and the social fabric that is slowly woven over a year of IN PERSON learning.
These printmaking tools would also promote cross curriculum knowledge in language arts. Printmaking heavily relies on text and the written word in certain lessons. There are a wealth of current printmakers I can introduce them to which will give them additional art history knowledge.
Printmaking allows for spontaneity which will reach the student who has less technical skill but great creative potential. You don't really know what's going to happen until the press rolls!
