Flexible seating allows students to rock, bounce, wobble, or rock which increases oxygen flow to the brain, blood flow, and core strength. It also helps keep their minds more focused and alert. With flexible seating, the classroom is arranged to give several different options. Students can choose where they would like to work based on their assignment or how they are feeling that day. Flexible seating provides an atmosphere of collaboration. It allows students to easily pair up or work in small groups. This will increase student collaboration and community within the classroom. They will learn to work together, share their workspace, and take turns with seating options. I have noticed my students are significantly more engaged in learning when they are given a choice in where they sit or work. They work more quietly and complete their work more often because they don't want to be moved due to talking or being off task. They are able to focus because they are comfortable. I have seen how this positively affects students' attitudes towards school and their ability to be successful.
