My students are learning how to learn again. These supplies will help me reinvigorate them. The manipulatives will especially help students who have a harder time grasping the more abstract concepts. I've specifically included volume visuals and the scales to help with our upcoming units. We will be using the scales to investigate balancing equations and solving for variables with multiple steps. We also have a functions unit coming up, so I thought posters that demonstrate functions in the real world would be interesting to students. It's also important to me to create a safe and happy space for them during these upsetting times. A lot of them have had a hard time adjusting. The books are to help me find more ways to engage them and get them thinking. In order to create a student-driven classroom, I want to have a wide array of tools accessible as needed by different students. The post-it graph papers will be great for sharing ideas with the class and working together in groups. Because my classroom is in the center of the school, I've noticed the lights are very bright and cause me headaches. I know it's doing the same for my students. They really enjoy classrooms that utilize the light filters, so I got some of those for them too. I also have a hard time keeping students focused on the material so I thought a phone charging station would be a good way to encourage them to voluntarily put their phones aside. Those materials will contribute to the overall atmosphere of the room.
