Students who find it hard to read inevitably fall behind in fluency and comprehension. If they continue to have negative experiences with reading their desire to read decreases and their attitudes about reading continues to decline. A multitude of research has shone that repeated reading is an effective strategy to improve reading abilities. Readers Theater will give my students on different levels, the opportunity to practice repeated reading as they work together to read fluently and with expression. Working together to understand the story they're telling can help them increase their comprehension. With these new tools my students will have the opportunity to make their own audio books, and this will give them the chance to listen to themselves, and work toward adding energy and expression to their stories. These short stories will not only give my students the chance to practice repeated readings, but give them a chance perform it for an audience, giving them a positive reading experience, and make reading fun.
