I teach a low level math class. These students struggle with behavioral issues and learning challenges. We work on writing our numbers correctly, counting by tens and ones, basic coin counting, and finishing our worksheet. I use a lot of positive reinforcement. Both emotional and prizes based. This allows them to focus in and remain on task. I use games, coloring and small sensory toys to keep the students quiet after they finish so I can focus on those who may be struggling. In my reading classes we are working on Fluency! Slowing down to understand and enjoy the written word. We do worksheets and packets to gauge their understanding. We read aloud to build our skills. I like to reward those who study our homework passage and pass their in room test with a prize. Help my students keep their eyes on the prize.
