One of my goals this year is to provide the best possible learning environment to my students. In order to do this, they must also learn that school is fun! School can be a place of academic, social, and emotionally learning as well as play. If this can be felt and learned in first grade, students will build a foundation of the love and of learning and motivation to succeed. I would like to bring some fun into our classroom, enrich the literacy experience of my students, and help with common supplies and organization for our classroom. As stated above play and fun is an important part of school and through the use of Magna tiles, outdoor recess equipment, and fidgets my students will be able to have that fun at school. In first grade, our reading curriculum is focused on phonics and the foundations. This is crucial for students to understand. Just as crucial is the develop a love of learning. Through this opportunity, I would like to enrich our classroom library and help instill a love of books! The books I have chosen are vocabulary and content rich and will do just that. Lastly, the structure of a classroom is so important. Everything must work and be available like a well-oiled machine. I will use part of this grant towards supplying items that we use on a daily, if not hourly basis in my classroom. I will also help organize and provide structure to reading groups and lessons with the remaining supplies.
