A highlight of a regular day in our classroom is our book club session. Students are grouped with peers and get to select and read books together. It is impressive to hear the lively discussion and debate the occurs as a result of book clubs. Our book clubs are tergeted to leverage critical skills that our students need to be successful both academically, and in life. We practice fluency, accuracy, and comprehension, and also use these books for various extension activities. We need updated, diverse books to help each student learn, grow, and experience different perspectives and situations. Funding for these books clubs will impact our entire grade as we will share and rotate books for book clubs among classes. Our current libary for book clubs contains a lot of older classic books, which we gladly utilize. However, funding for this project will bring about a more diverse, updated library which will help our students to extend learning and explore even more.
