Our students with disabilities need to self-advocate and be as independent as possible in adult life. The requested resources will benefit our students by encouraging healthy living and independence at home. Our students have goals of paid employment, independent living and life skills training. Many of my students have difficulty with balance and a regular 2-wheeled bike is inaccessible to them. Having a three-wheeled recumbent bike will enable healthy riding experiences. The home management items will foster independence at home and at work. Training and experience using a can opener, mixer, blender will help prepare food independently. Learning to iron clothes and vacuum in the home fosters skills that can be transferred beyond the home to employment. I currently do not have these supplies to help my students learn. If my project is supported, my students, and future students will benefit immensely in their personal growth and independence.
