My students are mostly from lower-middle to lower-class families. Some students in my honors class cannot afford to purchase supplementary novels for the class, so I try to get other teachers to chip in. A lot of the students having difficult home-lives (one parent, living with aunt, etc.) which makes learning even harder. The majority of the students in the 2,400-student school are Hispanic (90%). Most of my students want to succeed, but don't always have the support from home they need, so I am that support system. It's difficult to motivate students who constantly struggle.
