I'm a 5th grade teacher that is just starting out and would like to build my much needed library of book titles. The school I work for has a library of books that can be borrowed for things like guided reading but as I explored the options available I found that many of the books were outdated the the students were not excited about the options. I would like to build sets of books that are up to date and relatable to the students and their lives in 2022. Every year the class is different and I would like for the students to have different titles to pick from that they can be excited about. Along, with build my class library I would like to pair the books with resources from 5th grade standards to help reinforce reading elements that go along with the books. I would also like to set good reading habitats for my students. I would like to add some lighting to my classroom. I share a room divided in half with another teacher and as it is now when one of us needs to turn a light off to use a projector it can become dark and hard to see. Adding "happy lights" will add a positive experience along with benefiting good reading practices for the students.
