The counselors at our school implement a "Higher Education Week" each year where we teach students about all the exciting options they have for higher education and well-paying jobs after high school. We teach about colleges, universities, technical centers, and certificates to show students how many options they have. The requested college gear will be used to inspire students to learn about different options for higher education, and open their eyes to all the great programs out there. We will use them as raffle drawings, rewards for completing applications or essays, and motivation to gain interest. For many of our students, higher education can seem unattainable due to income or other issues, and the goal of our lessons is to teach them that they can achieve their dreams. Many of our students come from low-income or first-generation college families, and our goal is to show them that it is possible to meet their goals and procure a bright future for themselves. Additionally, we run groups and individual counseling sessions to help students learn techniques and coping skills to strengthen their mental health. The books requested will help us use evidence-based practices to guide our curriculum. We need snacks for the times we do activities, lessons, and drawings throughout the year to teach students about all the options for higher education they can pursue after high school.
