This is my first year teaching at this particular school and I was surprised that I wasn’t able to find decodable books that could help students practice applying the skills that I teach daily. Students in first grade need lots of repetition and repeated reading. I had to find and photocopy books and text that was appropriate for them which took many additional hours of preparation. By putting books that are at the appropriate level in the hands of my students, they will be more motivated and make growth toward the reading goals we set. Students will feel successful as they see themselves improve and set their foundation on a strong course for their future years of education.

About my class
