Math is a difficult subject for most of my students. I have found that my academic learning increases in class when I use actual handheld calculators. There is something important about those buttons springing underneath your fingers as you enter numbers or calculations that make it feel important. Having graphs, plots, and information in COLOR on a calculator is vital for academic learning. My students are tech kids, they understand and thrive on variations in screens displays and quality of presentation. I want them to feel like math is important and beautiful on a screen. Not clunky and awkward. This wonder of a device will ALWAYS edge out any phone or app that comes with a calculator option because it is specifically designed for math. I would love to let each of my students check out a calculator to take home with them, but as these are expensive, I only have a classroom set.
