One of my biggest goals as a teacher is to help my students become more passionate about their education, the learning process and grasping the content/skills that I teach every single class period. I want my students to become excited when I introduce a new activity/project. Getting students excited about their education in a way that improves their social-emotional health has never felt more important than right now. One of the best ways, in my opinion, to promote student engagement, happiness and connections is to allow them to demonstrate their knowledge in creative ways. This is why I am requesting so many materials that will allow my students to create visuals that will express their understanding of complex historical topics. I'm hoping that implementing more lessons that encourage my students to think and express their knowledge creatively will spark a greater interest in the content- thus improving their outlook on school, which will hopefully increase their spirt and outlook in regards to their education. Materials that my students will be able to use both in class and at home for project creation include scissors, scotch tape, masking tape, staplers with staples, folders, glue, paper, note cards, sticky notes, and popsicle sticks. Some projects we complete over the year- Imperialism One Pager, Classical Civilizations Character Creation, Revolutions around the World Monument Creation, Simulations that require them to create their own props. The buzzers (and necessary batteries) will be a fantastic way of promoting student engaging during jeopardy style review games. The Expo markers will also be used for individual white boards during review games. The locks and laminator will be perfect for Escape Room Simulations- one example: Escaping the Black Plague. I can laminate the clues so they can be reused.
