My students struggle to get caught up in reading--they are below grade level and often have learning disabilities. Having pictures along with text increases their comprehension. Students need books on a lower level that will help them get excited about feel successful in reading a complete book. Having new graphic novels and books in verse will help students read complete books. Additionally, games that build comprehension also make learning reading skills more enjoyable. When students feel successful, they will be ready to take on harder books on higher levels, but until then, they need books that help them visualize and other engaging activities.
