Having class sets of books that are connected to our curriculum will help students understand the application of some of the history content and other areas that we study. Having access to enough novels for all of my students increases my ability to teach them to learn things from what they read. I teach them about the Holocaust, but reading a story told from the perspective of a prisoner at a concentration camp makes the event come alive. This is what a class set of books could do for my students. I have noticed that students most often find entertainment and information from technology. Our students use their Chromebooks for a lot of their school work. They have phones, tablets, game systems, and a number of other screens they use for entertainment outside of school. Having these books will teach them to expand their sources of knowledge and enjoyment. I am hoping to create a class of readers. Putting a great book in their hand and helping them to discover what's in the pages will enrich their lives and their learning.
