In our modern age, we are often disconnected from the source of both our objects and our creativity. Woodcarving offers students a creative and tactile opportunity to make things that are unique, useful and beautiful, from the raw material to the finished project. While learning the woodcarving craft, my students learn a range of skills, including design, carving techniques, and wood properties as well as artistic expression, problem-solving and follow-through. The process also nurtures resilience, transforming mistakes into opportunities, and gives students a satisfying experience of taking pride in the work of their own hands.
