This project is about providing an exciting hands-on experience for students, while also giving them an opportunity to apply the engineering design process as they demonstrate their understanding of momentum and impulse. Each student group will receive a styrofoam head with a grape on top representing the brain. The student group will be tasked with creating a helmet that will prevent the grape from being squished when subjected to a sudden impact. Each group will have access to a variety of materials to create the helmet but will be subject to a "project budget" that will limit how much material can be used. This limitation will cause critical thinking in the groups as they seek a way to overcome this limitation.
