Students have access to calculators at their fingertips as most devices have an app. However, in math class, when phone devices are closed, I would like my students to still be able to use a calculator. I have requested a class set of calculators. Using a calculator can also help reinforce concepts taught in class, especially when we are talking about division, turning fractions into decimals, rounding, and working with percentages. In 6th and 7th grade, we want to introduce students to the basic four-function calculator. Calculators are a part of math, going forward, as scientific and graphing calculators are used in more advanced math classes.
