My goal with receiving these math materials is to enhance the way students learn math concepts. Manipulatives help students develop conceptual understandings by building concrete models of abstract ideas. It can also create a multi-dimensional framework on which their math foundation grows. I feel that my students improve over the long term when they use these hands-on methods. These manipulatives help my students to build their confidence by using them in a way to test and confirm their reasoning and having fun along the way. For example, using the ten frames can help my student see patterns and understand place value. My students are noticeably more engaged in playing math games instead of doing worksheets. They are having fun while understanding the math concepts, plus they get extra practice and review. As for my students who struggle counting and recognizing numbers, the counting cones manipulatives can help my students gain a better understanding of number sense: understanding quantities, learning concepts for more or less, larger and smaller. The use of whiteboards is a daily use in my classroom, especially with math. My students use the whiteboards as a way to explain how they got to their answer. The whiteboard allows me to see what my students are doing and helps me connect the lesson plan to the concept that is being taught. Another math manipulative that I have chosen, is the tower of math games (Jenga) which engages my student's development skills in operations, algebraic thinking, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Also, it helps with the improvement of their cognitive performance and hand-to-eye coordination. With using side games and other alternative methods I am able to help the students to understand and develop a mind set to achieving their goals and constantly wanting to improve.
