We have tested and leveled all of the students in our school. We know exactly what reading level each of them is on. We then have time each day where the students read on their level. It is important to give them enough books that they have a good selection of books from which to choose. They also need a bookshelf and comfy pillows to lie on. Two years ago my mother and I spent nearly $700 dollars on books and bins for my classroom. The district has also spent money on a small leveled library for our school. It is never enough. I would like to provide a better literacy center for my students. Once a student can read they are much more successful in all of the other subjects.
