Research shows that greenery in the classroom benefits students emotional wellbeing. It increases focus and reduces stress. Our students have had a difficult year. Some have lost parents. Others are dealing with abuse. All have had their life disrupted in some way. Every day, at least a few of my students request to meet with a counselor to receive help with their mental health. Our counselors are wonderful, but I want to implement research-based strategies in my classroom to support them in any way I can. Putting artificial plants and nature-themed art in my classroom is an effective way to help my students deal with their personal challenges. One of my classes is a co-taught inclusion class in which some students have an IEP, and I think greenery could especially benefit them. Plants will also support our biology curriculum. I greatly appreciate any help to make my requested purchases.
