These materials will be given to our multi-lingual students to take home over the summer. Often students regress over the summer, but by providing these materials our ML students will continue to grow during these months and may even discover a love of writing. Our goal is for students to use the composition books to continue writing creative stories at home and illustrate them using the colored pencils. In class, we have read stories written in the form of journal entries, as well as made our own entries throughout the school year. Students will be able to continue writing in their own journal. Some of our children may need a little extra help in developing ideas to write about and that's where the prompt journals are great. They give many kinds of ideas for students to write about - funny stories, serious topics, opinions, etc. Finally, the multiplication and sight words flash cards will give them drill and practice at home. Multiplication leads to division, fractions, decimals, and algebra. Therefore, it is important for students to memorize their facts. The sight word cards will be used with our newcomer students for whom this is their first year in the U.S. In our ESOL classes during the year, one of the areas we concentrate on is improving writing skills which enhances reading and even speaking skills. These writing materials will help our students become better writers by giving them a way to express themselves. The more they write, the better they get at it.
